Certification Pathway
International Art Therapy Association has established a structured certification application pathway. Applicants are required to complete Association-recognized training and submit relevant application materials and case reports according to the certification category. Certification may be granted upon review and approval. The certification process emphasizes course participation, practical understanding, case documentation, ethical awareness, and professional reflection. It is designed to support learners in building a professional development record in art therapy, drawing-based approaches, and expressive arts.
Application Pathway
1. Select a Certification Pathway
Applicants may select an appropriate certification pathway according to their learning background, professional foundation, and development goals. The Association’s certification framework may include art and drawing therapy-related learning, advanced application, supervision-oriented development, and global instructor development.
Application requirements, learning expectations, and review criteria may vary by certification category and shall be subject to the current program announcement and official Association reply.
2. Complete Required Training
Applicants are required to complete art and drawing therapy-related training programs recognized or authorized by the Association, including required learning participation, class attendance, learning tasks, and practical exercises.
Programs may be delivered through in-person courses, online courses, video-based learning, blended learning, workshops, or professional seminars, depending on project arrangements.
Upon completion of the required training, participants may receive a certificate of attendance or study record according to program requirements.
3. Submit Application Materials
After completing the required training, applicants may submit certification application materials according to the certification category. Materials may include personal information, proof of course completion, educational or professional background documents, and other documents requested by the Association.
The English name printed on the certificate will be based on the information submitted by the applicant. Applicants are advised to use the English name shown on their passport or official identification documents for certificate preparation and future verification.
4. Pay the Certification Application Fee
Applicants are required to complete payment of the certification application fee within the period stated in the current program announcement or Association notice.
Fees may vary depending on certification category, certificate level, supplementary application, extension request, or certificate reissue. Specific fees, payment methods, and deadlines shall be subject to the current program announcement or official Association reply.
5. Submit Required Case Reports
Certification applications are not based solely on course attendance. They also consider the applicant’s ability to understand practical situations, observe artwork, organize session materials, facilitate inquiry, maintain ethical boundaries, and reflect professionally.
Applicants are required to submit designated case reports or practice records according to the certification category. Case materials may include artwork documentation, session records, observation and analysis, technique application, professional reflection, and follow-up support considerations.
To protect participant privacy, all case materials must be anonymized. Real names, identification numbers, contact information, or any directly identifiable personal information must not be included.
6. Review and Result Notification
The Association will conduct a comprehensive review of the applicant’s course records, case reports, and supporting documents according to the certification category.
Review areas may include completion of required training, completeness of case materials, artwork observation and understanding, questioning and facilitation skills, ethical awareness, privacy protection, practical application, and professional reflection.
Review results will be communicated to applicants according to the project schedule. If supplementary materials or revisions are required, the Association will notify the applicant according to the review outcome.
7. Certificate Issuance and Verification
Applicants who complete the required training, certification application, case submission, and review process may receive relevant certification issued by the Association upon approval.
Certificates serve as evidence of course completion, professional development, continuing education, and personal capacity building. Certificate verification, electronic certificates, printed certificates, and mailing arrangements shall be handled according to Association announcements or individual notices.
Certification Categories
The Association’s certification framework includes different categories according to learning stage and professional development pathway, covering foundation learning, advanced application, supervision-oriented development, thematic study, and global instructor development in art and drawing therapy-related fields.
Specific certification titles, application requirements, training expectations, case report guidelines, review criteria, certificate titles, and issuance procedures shall be subject to the current certification project announcement and official Association reply.
Application Notes
Applicants should ensure that all submitted materials are accurate, complete, and clearly presented.
Case reports must follow confidentiality principles and ethical guidelines and be submitted in the format required by the Association.
Certification applications, extensions, supplementary submissions, certificate reissue, and related administrative matters shall follow current Association regulations.
Certification results are subject to the Association’s final review.
